Thinking "GLOCALLY" and beyond our walls
Saint John's mission and outreach is predicated on the saying "Preach the gospel at all times, and if necessary, use words" - the famous quote attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi. We are called by Christ's great commandment to "‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. And Love your neighbor as yourself.’"
Our mission is three part: local, regional/national and global. We commit ourselves to deliberately allocate funding for each of these area and additionally seek ways to become personally involved.
Below you can find examples of our missional call. We hope you can join us in supporting these causes!
THE JUBILEE FOOD PANTRY
Jubilee Ministries was founded at Saint John's Hollywood and for decades ministered to those in need.
While no longer in Hollywood, we continue to support what is now the Jubilee Food Panty, located in Fort Lauderdale which provides much needed bags of food to families in need.
You can help support this food pantry ministry by dropping off canned goods at Saint John's. Simply call the office to set up a time, or bring in any Sunday at 9am.
BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLIES
At the end of each summer, Saint John's begins a back to school supply drive to assist families with the cost of necessary items required for students.
Items collected include backpacks, pens, pencils, markers, paper, notepads, binders, report covers and more - anything needed to encourage a good school year.
If you'd like to donate to this wonderful cause, supplies can be purchased and dropped off at the church in the months of July and August. Simply call the office to set up a time, or bring in any Sunday morning at 9am and join us for worship!
LAUNDRY LOVE
Laundry Love is a ministry of Saint John’s designed to help those in need with free laundry once a month. This ministry is offered on the second Tuesday of each month from 3 to 5:30pm. People are paired with a Saint John’s volunteered to assist them with providing free laundry soap and dryer sheets. Pizza and water are also provided for free.
This is a great ministry to take part in, volunteers are always appreciated!
THE BIG RED BUS
Saint John's sponsors One Blood's BIG RED BUS on our campus on a quarterly basis.
Blood cannot be manufactured outside the body and has a limited shelf life. The supply must constantly be replenished by generous blood donors. Approximately 62% of the population is eligible to donate blood, but only 3% of those who are eligible actually donate blood.
This program helps keep hospitals and blood banks supplied with much needed blood. There are many reasons patients need blood:
More than 25% of the blood supply is used by patients battling cancer
1 out of every 83 childbirths will require a blood transfusion
The second most common medical procedure in U.S. hospitals is the transfusion of blood and blood products
3.2% of the blood supply is used to treat pediatric patients
Watch for the bus in our parking lot!
MEDICAL MISSION
TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Every fall, a medical team, supported by the parish of Saint John's heads to the barrio la barquita, located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
While there, the team establishes a week-long medical clinic, offering basic medical care to a community in need. Our time there affirms our call to help those in need, and the relationships we develop with eh people we work with and serve lasts forever.
Our team is always seeking medical professionals, interpreters and non-medical personnel. If global ministry intrigues you, or you would like to donate to this cause, let us know!
